Officers have confirmed to the families of 11 people that their loved ones are “highly likely” to have been killed in the Shoreham air disaster.
But the chief constable of Sussex Police admitted he did not know whether all victims would ever be positively identified from clinical evidence at the scene.
The forensic identification of the victims involves forensic archaeologists, anthropologists, odontologists and pathologists. If the theory the Hawker Hunter suffered a 'flameout' is correct it means the engine cut out as it reached the top of its doomed loop-the-loop.He said: ‘This suggests it was a flameout, which means somehow the engine has either stopped or restarted.”
The air show at Clacton-on-Sea in Essex will go ahead on Thursday where the crowds will be asked to pay their respects.
